The location and close historical sites

This detached, four bedroom house is situated on the main street of the quiet hamlet of Bravas. Situated on the Atlantic coast of Lewis at the crossroads north to the Butt of Lewis, you can enjoy a day out in Stornoway or visit some of the island’s beautiful beaches, with many other historical sights within easy reach. Stornoway, the capital of Lewis, with its many attractions (Castle Grounds, museum, harbour, restaurants and shops), is only a 15 - 20 minute drive away. Or stay on the Westside and visit the Blackhouse in Arnol and experience how crofters used to live and work until the early 20th century. The Whalebone Arch and Clach an Trushal, the tallest standing stone in Scotland, are only minutes away.

Stop at the Norse Mill and Kiln on your way to Dun Carloway, an iron age broch, and then head on to the beautiful, renowned Callanish Standing Stones and visitor centre. For young guests, there is a small playpark a 5-minute walk down the road, or go for a spin up to Ness to visit the lighthouse at the spectacular coastline, and spend an afternoon in the lovely playpark in the dunes.

Village in the midst of nature

In Barvas, there’s a local service station, where you can top up your car and get some basic shopping including hot snacks Monday to Friday mornings, a post office (Tuesday and Friday afternoon), and also a hairdresser. In Barvas itself, you can find the Church of Scotland, place of the great revival in 1949.

Whatever the time of year you come to visit the island, nature won't dissapoint. Spot amazing wildlife, experience the beautiful scent of machair flowers in the summer, hear the sounds of the corncrake or if you come for an autumn break, look out for the Aurora Borealis as it creates spectacular night skies in the north.
